Norway’s Conservative party recently proposed a citizenship test (linked page in Norwegian) for immigrants which by far exceeds the homeland awareness level of the average Norwegian school kid, who, consequently, rightfully should be deprived of their birth rights, of course. I mean, we do after all pride ourselves with justice.
Of course I took the test! Scoring 19 out of a sample of 19, would you believe. Then again I’m not in school.

Conservative party? Rather “Norways Populist party”, in my opinion. But then: I may be too old to accept that the classical conservatism is dead and buried.

We’ve managed to accumulate quite a few populist parties over the last decade or so, Fred Rune. Apparently the Conservatives make no exception to that rule. Come to think of it; politics, on the whole, have become very populistic, haven’t they? And yes; classical conservatism is a relic of the past, I’m afraid…

I was a bit unsure about that king-question. Sure, the king’s role is mostly ceremonial et cetera. But the Constitution says something else, really.

Me too, Øyvind, but of the three alternatives available it came closest. Come to think of it; wouldn’t you say that the Constitution is often set aside in these matters? Which, if true, is highly questionable. To say the least. Apart from that, I had to wonder what use new citizens could possibly have of knowing which fjord is the longest — or which oil field has been operational for the longest duration.
These are strange times.

As a Western Norwegian, I of course find fiords to be of extreme importance to whether people should be given the Norwegian citizenship.
I want a more detailed and complicated test, though, sifting away as many Oslo-residents as possible so the city can once and for all be declared Swedish; after all those Swedish immigrants are coming in hordes. Bjørgvin for capital.
