Due to an all-too time consuming work load, I find myself unable to follow up on my Sunday post on the Nordic countries’ intention to defend Icelandic air space, but the Nordic foreign ministers landed on a declaration yesterday, on strengthening Nordic cooperation in foreign affairs and security issues, to be found on Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs web page, for those interested.

No news yet on the non-NATO countries Finland and Sweden’s take on the operational side of things:

[…] The Ministers note that Denmark and Norway have already provided operational assistance to Iceland and participated in air surveillance. The Ministers agree to look further into the feasibility of the proposal on surveillance of Icelandic airspace, under Icelandic authority, with regard to phase one and two of the proposal.

Hvis dette er blitt innbruddstyvenes nye modus operandi, kjenner forråelsen av samfunnet åpenbart ikke lenger noen grenser.

Denmark and Norway share the rank as the world’s second safest countries in this year’s Global Peace Index (GPI).  The Nordic ranking reads thus:

    1. Denmark (global 2nd place) + Norway (global 2nd place)
    2. Iceland (global 4th place – from 1st last year)
    3. Sweden (global 6th place)
    4. Finland (global 9th place)

All in all as could be expected, even if Iceland was a bit of a surprise. Please see this for a complete listing.

Norway’s Conservative party recently proposed a citizenship test (linked page in Norwegian) for immigrants which by far exceeds the homeland awareness level of the average Norwegian school kid, who, consequently, rightfully should be deprived of their birth rights, of course. I mean, we do after all pride ourselves with justice.

Of course I took the test! Scoring 19 out of a sample of 19, would you believe. Then again I’m not in school.

Norwegian news aggregator Sesam Nyheter to be discontinued in July. There’s always Google News, in a number of languages, but could iNorden 3.0 somehow make up an alternative? After all, with filtered blog search and feeds et cetera et cetera… Are there really any limits?

If the ambitions to reach beyond the Scandinavian countries (i.e. Denmark, Norway and Sweden) is to succeed, I’m afraid a certain (predominant) share of posts in English is inevitable – which, btw, ties very well in with Øyvind’s intentions (with which, incidentally, I agree).
